Dr. A. Ramalingam
He worked as Dean, Agricultural College and Research Institute, Killikulam, Tuticorin District from 2017 – 2019. He belongs to the faculty in Genetics & Plant Breeding and has obtained his master’s and Ph.D. degree from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore. He is a Cotton breeder and developed five American cotton varieties viz., SVPR 2, SVPR 3, SVPR 4, SVPR 5, SVPR 6, and one Karunkani Cotton K12. The first intra- Hirustum hybrid cotton at TNAU viz., TNAU cot. SVPR 1 was developed by him for the southern zone of India viz., Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Telungana. He also involved in the development of High Yielding Varieties viz., Rice MDU 3, Rice MDU 4, White Seeded Sesame SVPR 1, Green gram K1, Sorghum K12, and Jack Palur 1. He entered the University service in August 1984 and served in several places. He has more than 48 research papers to his credit and has presented 21 research papers in National and International Conferences/Symposiums. He has been nominated as a Monitoring Committee Chairman by ICAR for evaluating All India Coordinated Cotton Improvement Project trials and Front Line demonstrations for the North zone, Karnataka, and Gujarat. He got M.S. Swaminathan Medal for Best Thesis, Ramaiah Medal for the Highest OGPA in Ph. D. He got Best IAMWARM Scientist award for the implementation of SRI in Arjuna Nathi River Project. He was the nodal officer in NADP work (10.0 C), TANII Project (1.8 C), EDII Project (2 C) at Killikulam and Director for Killikulam Agri- Business Incubation Forum during 2017 -19. To his credit, he has guided 6 M.Sc and 3 Ph.D. Students. He acts as a member for Genetic Engineering Approval Committee (GEAC) in the evaluation of Bt. Cotton hybrids at Tamil Nadu 2006 – 2007.
